Rules & Research

At Learning with the Best, we have some non-negotiables :

  1. Work hard, play hard!

    • Work and practice ALWAYS come first. Brain breaks come later :)

  2. NEVER give up

    • Learning is a PROCESS and it can be hard sometimes. It’s okay to struggle, just don’t let it get you down!

  3. ALWAYS ask for help (if needed)

    • This is a biggie. We can’t do our jobs until you do yours. Don’t suffer in silence. Ask for help!

  4. It’s OKAY to fail sometimes. Learn from it!

    • Again, Learning is a PROCESS. We don’t always get it on our first try and that is FINE. Just trust the process.

  5. BELIEVE in yourself!

    • You are capable of great things if you just have the courage to try, try again.

  6. Brain Breaks are NEEDED. (See resources for more info)

    • They have to be short! I only have your students for a few hours!

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

FAQ’s

  • I personally know each and every single one of my teachers. They are all fabulous, wonderful, experienced educators, just trying to do what they love. I started this business because sadly (as we all know), teachers don't make what they should in our country. This is my way of doing what I love and helping out my teacher family along the way.

  • A typical session with me (April) will run about two hours and consist of work AND play. We don't want our students to get burned out! Please see the research above on brain breaks and the importance of breaking up a session, even if only for 5 minutes.

Depending on what a student needs help on (you will need to tell me what that is and schedule with me 48 hours in advance of a session with me), we will go through practice problems, watch videos and drill on whatever skill your student is struggling with, or needs acceleration in! Please reach out to me for more details!

**For now, I am only offering sessions in math. This is subject to change and I will update this site to reflect those changes as they come!**

  • Short Answer: Call or email me!

Longer Answer: Please send me an email or text with the name of the tutor you are interested in and I will get you in contact with them directly. I do not post any of my tutors' contact information on this site because teaching is hard, y'all. I can help them out by handling the communication and I am happy to connect you with the tutor of your dreams!

  • Short answer: Yes! (For April's sessions only- every teacher is different and will set their own schedule).

Longer answer: Once you are booked, you are locked in until you tell me otherwise. I would obviously prefer if you let me know ahead of time if you need to cancel. However, I am aware that life happens and I will accommodate any cancellations with no extra fee attached. Because of my flexibility with you, I ask that you also show me the same flexibility. I will do my best to only cancel 24 hours in advance, but life happens so I reserve the right to cancel at ANY time. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding rescheduling!

  • Short Answer: YES.

Long Answer: Definitely. Even though this is tutoring, not "school," I still expect my kiddos to know how to behave like scholars and just plain good people. I know that kids are kids and they're going to have off days every now and then. Sometimes sessions won't be as productive as we would like. However, with my "strike out" system, I am hoping that I never have to dismiss a student (I reserve the right to dismiss a student at ANY time).

The "strike out" system is simple:

    3 Strikes you're out (for teachers/parents)

5 strikes you're out (for students)

The STUDENT strikes can be given out based on poor behavior, lack of effort, and/or destruction of property.

The ADULT strikes (teachers AND parents) are given out based on complaints. If a teacher is constantly getting complaints from parents, I reserve the right to dismiss them. The SAME goes for parents. I reserve the right to dismiss any parents who are negative nellies and/or complaining too much.

In summary: I reserve the right to dismiss any student, teacher or parent at ANY time. Let's be civil and let's have fun together!
